Student Transportation Special Situations

Student Absence
If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, please let the bus company know as early as possible.

Late Bus
Occasionally, a bus may be late because of traffic or other problems. If your child is being picked up at school, tell him or her to wait there for the bus. Children should not leave the school grounds unless told to do so by the principal at the sending school.

Missing the Bus
If your child misses the bus in the morning, he or she should go into the sending school for the day. School Staff should inform your child's school that he or she is spending the day there. You may also be called and told by the school where your child is spending the day.

Traffic Accident

If your child's bus is involved in an accident, you will be called and given all available information by the bus company.

Driving Your Children to School

Some parents prefer to drive their children to school themselves. If you do, there are some safety measures you can take that will help your child and other children as well.

Parents can unintentionally cause problems by
  • double parking
  • getting in the way of school buses
  • dropping children off in the middle of the street opposite to the sidewalk of the school entrance.
  • failing to observe loading zones and parking regulations

Parents are reminded that they may not remove students from the bus, at the school site.

If your child does not ride the bus on a particular day, please notify the school bus coordinator Page 18 before 7:50 a.m. so that the classroom teacher can be notified. It can not be done over the phone. On the day when the child is not riding the bus and the appropriate measures have been met, the student is to wait in commons B.

It is absolutely necessary that students being picked up by parents (those not assigned for bus pick up) be picked up between 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Supervisory personnel may not be available after this time to assure appropriate security, and, therefore, the child may be turned over to the youth division of the police station located at 51st and Wenthworth to be held for parent pick up. We cannot stress enough to pick up your child on time to avoid this drastic measure.
